Island News Hawaii Secrets

Island News is published by Island Press, a division of Hearst Magazines, Inc. The first issue of Island News was published on Nov. 24, 1931. The title was changed to Stroller’s Weekly, later revised to the Island News Professional, and Douglas Island News, later edited by H. B. Selby & E. S. Stevens. The name was not last used until March 3, 1933, when the final edition was published.

Island News Professional brought to Alaska many new writers who wrote articles dealing with business in the islands and the surroundings. The pages also included travel and news articles, a new sports section and a mining report. an article on the Kenai Fjords National Park, an island weather report, a brand new feature on the Kenai Wildlife Park, a cultural calendar, a wildlife report, and mining reports. Island News Professional was primarily a periodical, but also included a few business-oriented pages. The pages were divided into two sections The Commercial Business section, which dealt with business owners and their businesses and the Employment and Training section, which was created to keep readers informed about local job openings. The business section was designed to provide advertisements and details of jobs that were available. The section on employment featured ads for classifieds that listed every kind of job that was available which included fishing, construction, general contractoring, cleaning, landscaping and any other trade. There were also listings of employers who were seeking workers and telephone directories with names and numbers of companies.

The Kenai Peninsula News was published by Island News Digest, a magazine that featured local content. It focused mainly on the Kenai Peninsula, and covered everything from travel and tourism to arts and culture. Contrary to the Peninsula News, which was predominantly business-oriented and focused on business, the Kenai Digest was entirely designed to be a service for consumers. It featured articles on education, family activities and sports, culture, and local government.

Other topics included education, culture, religion and labor, technology, business owners as well as radio and television production. As you would expect, there was a lot of news about the Kenai Peninsula and Kenai Peninsula area. Many people were proud to have a reliable, objective source of business news.
